A design is easier to evaluate when the reasoning is visible. The example below explains how the message, supporting information and contact path work together.

Three decisions to examine

01 / The opening

Identify the service and location.

The proposed opening names drain cleaning and Sample City. Compare that with the more general welcome in the starting version.

02 / Supporting information

Show where genuine evidence belongs.

The evidence annotation shows where genuine credentials or customer evidence would belong. It does not supply credentials or customer results for this fictional business.

03 / The inquiry path

Explain the next step.

The proposed version tells a visitor what to include when asking about service and explains that the contact example is not a working form.

The experience behind the website work.

Read Matt’s background

I’m Matt LaClear. My background includes direct-response copywriting, agency sales and business development.

That experience informs the questions we ask about a website: what it communicates, what supports the business’s claims and how clearly it helps someone take the next step.

Start with the customer’s questions.

Does the business offer the service a visitor needs? What supports its claims? How can someone get in touch?

Our working approach explains how those questions connect to the proposed changes, the scope of implementation and the testing and approval process.

Read our working approach

What to look for when evaluating a mobile website.

A site can fit a phone screen and still leave questions unanswered.

Look beyond whether the layout resizes. Can a prospective customer tell what the business does, find relevant information and understand the next step?

A proposed change should have a reason.

Ask which visitor question it answers or which task it makes clearer. A different color or a bigger button is not, by itself, an explanation of the business value.

Know what will change before work reaches the live site.

Identify the affected pages, the behavior on desktop, the contact connections and the approval process. Separate the design concept from the work actually included.

A redesign is not always the first problem to solve.

When few relevant visitors reach a website, or inquiries go unanswered, the constraint may be elsewhere. Design examples show an approach; assessing business results requires appropriate traffic and inquiry data.
